I must say, you all have been very patient as we’ve talked up the hardwood flooring reveal and failed to deliverer for two full weeks! The delay was mostly because I wanted to get a decent video tour for you and the good light only comes streaming in while we’re at work. So this past Sunday I kicked Logan and Kirk out of the house for a little peace and quiet and recorded this video update:
I’m not sure why I sound out of breath. Actually, I do. Have you met my son? He never. stops. moving.
It was a surprise to everyone when the floors went in without a hitch, given how much trouble we had just ordering the wood and getting the installer to come out and measure. But in fact, they were completed a full 2 days ahead of schedule–I fully attribute this to all the bitching and nitpicking I did over their previous shortcomings. This warp-speed install was great, but it created a little hiccup in our moving plans as we didn’t have help lined up for when we needed it. We made a few frantic phone calls and lined up a hand or two…special shout-out to my mom and Kirk’s dad for coming to help on short notice!
Without further ado, take a look at these gleaming bamboo floors. Makes you want to go bowling doesn’t it?
While we were originally looking for dramatic dark wood floors, we chose Natural Strand Bamboo because it contrasted better with the wood paneled wall in the living room and den. The color variations in the bamboo also play so nicely with the walnut. See how it picks up the warm reddish tones?
It’s now been two weeks since we laid the new flooring and moved all our stuff in. Believe it or not, very little has changed since that day. We were actually completely moved in and had all of our boxes were unpacked within 48 hours. Crazy right? That’s our Type A personalities for you though. As impressive as 48 hours sounds, we didn’t beat our personal record of 10 hours (which is how long it took us to get settled in our first house), but given that this place is twice as large, and we have all of Logan’s stuff to contend with now (not to mention Logan himself!) we’re pretty pleased with that figure.
Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s a wrestling match underway in my living room and it sounds as though they need a referee.
